TypeORM vs Sequelize vs Mongoose?

Practice this question

Definition:

TypeORM and Sequelize are object-relational mappers for relational databases, while Mongoose models documents in MongoDB. They provide convenient data-access APIs but do not replace database knowledge. The generated queries, constraints and transaction behavior still determine correctness and performance.

Key points:

  • TypeORM and Sequelize map application objects to relational tables.

  • Mongoose works with MongoDB documents and schemas.

  • All still need good queries, indexes and correct transaction handling.

  • Choose from the project's database and required features, then inspect the actual queries for important operations.

Interview point:

  • Say which abstraction the tool provides and where you still need to understand the underlying database.
