Which AWS and Azure concepts should I know?

01 Understand02 Recall03 Prepare

Understand the concept

Cloud platforms provide managed building blocks for compute, storage, databases, networking and operations. AWS and Azure use different service names, but the underlying choices—virtual machine versus managed runtime, object storage versus database, public versus private network—are transferable. Understanding responsibilities is more useful than memorizing a long service list.

Important ideas

  • Compute: EC2 / Azure Virtual Machines. Object storage: S3 / Blob Storage.

  • Managed relational databases: RDS / Azure SQL or Azure Database for PostgreSQL.

  • Networking: VPC / VNet. Monitoring: CloudWatch / Azure Monitor.

  • Know the purpose first; do not claim hands-on use of services you have not used.

  • Managed services reduce some maintenance work but still require configuration, access controls, capacity planning and backups.
